Cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata is a subspecies of the small yellow cockatoo. It is a little bigger than the main species.

The length of body can reach 38 centimeters, it is covered predominantly with white plumage, on the background of which stand out bright orange sections on top of the crest and parotid areas. The beak is greyish-black, paws are grey. The area around the eyes is framed by a bluish aureole. Externally, the male and female are identical, they differ only in color of the iris.

The only habitat of these parrots are tropical forests of the Sumba island, where they build their nests in the hollows of tall trees. They hold in small coveys. Living in equatorial monsoon climate zone they are adapted to the dry climate and moisture. Very are fond of swimming during the monsoon rains.

In captivity cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata live long, they are not very fastidious, and are not afraid of cold. Therefore its maintenance at home is not difficult. Bird constantly needs fresh branches and regular bathing. It is a lively, cheerful and intelligent parrot. It is tied to human very much. Being a lover of “communication”, they resent when they do not get attention. Dissatisfaction can be expressed with uttering of unpleasant cries,  flapping wings. All this is done in order to attract the attention of the host. However, cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata don’t have a great talking ability, but they can learn about a dozen of individual words or phrases, whistle verses of the songs and play a variety of sounds.

The basis of the ration of these birds, like the majority of members of this family, comprises fruits of various trees, their young shoots, flowers and buds.
